Websites that bring in calls, emails and bookings

If you run a business in the Sault, your website is often the first thing a new customer sees — usually on their phone, often before they ever call you. It should make a good first impression, say clearly what you do, and make it easy to get in touch.

That’s what I build. I’m Jay McBride, and Bunker41 is my one-person design and development studio here in Sault Ste. Marie. I design your site, build it, set it up, and show you how to run it. You deal with me the whole way through: no account manager in between, and no hand-off to someone you’ve never met.

What I can help with

  • Website design. A new site or a redesign that presents your business clearly, works well on phones, and makes the next step obvious. You’ll be able to update it yourself.
  • Web development. The parts behind the scenes: contact and booking forms, connections to the tools you already use, fast loading, and the technical setup Google needs to understand your site.
  • Online stores. Shopify stores set up around your products, with shipping and checkout that fit how you sell.
  • App development. Web and phone apps that take the busywork off your plate. More about app development in Sault Ste. Marie →

How a project works

  1. A free 30-minute call. Tell me about your business and what you’d like to improve. You don’t need a technical brief.
  2. A written plan and a fixed price. You’ll know the scope, the schedule and the cost before anything starts.
  3. Design and build. You see designs and a working preview, and give feedback along the way.
  4. Launch and handover. I launch the site and show you how to update it. Most projects include 30 days of support afterwards.

Most websites take three to four weeks from go-ahead to launch.

Work you can look at

  • GR Truss — the first website for a truss manufacturer here in the Sault, which had no online presence before. One clear page: who they are, what they make, and how to reach them.
  • Musical Comedy Guild — design updates, an SEO fix and ongoing support for the Sault’s musical theatre company, so their site shows up in search and sends people straight to tickets.
  • ANP Office Furniture — a Shopify store that quotes live parcel and freight shipping at checkout, so customers can order anything from one chair to a whole office without phoning for a price.
  • Magpie Inventory — my own stocktaking app for independent shops, live on the App Store.
  • Spec Social — a web tool that shows how a photo or video will look on fifteen social platforms before you post it.

Not in the Sault?

That’s fine too. I work with businesses across Canada through calls, email and screen sharing, and the process is exactly the same.

Jason and the team at Bunker41 designed our commercial furniture webstore to help us penetrate the competitive GTA market. The site they designed is better than any competitors’ in the market. It is fast, sophisticated, and visually appealing with the advanced functionality you need in today’s market. We are beyond satisfied!

Questions

Questions Sault businesses ask

If yours isn’t here, just ask. There are no silly questions on the free call.

Ask me anything
How much does a website cost in Sault Ste. Marie?

Websites start at $5,000 plus applicable taxes. Beyond that, it depends on what you need: how many pages, how much content, and whether the site has to connect to other systems. After a free 30-minute call, once I have what I need, I’ll give you a written, fixed price before any work begins, including any ongoing costs. If you have a budget in mind, tell me and I’ll be honest about what it can cover.

How long does it take to build a website?

Most websites take three to four weeks from go-ahead to launch, or five to seven when there is a lot of content to organise or move over. Your schedule accounts for content and feedback, and you’ll have it in writing before we start.

Will my new website show up on Google?

Every site I build is set up for search: fast on phones, clear page titles and descriptions, structured data that tells Google what your business does, and a sitemap submitted to Google Search Console. For local searches, your Google Business Profile and your reviews matter just as much as the website. Nobody can honestly promise a first-place ranking, but a well-built site gives you the best start.

Can you redesign our existing website?

Often, yes. I’ll look at what you have before recommending changes. Some sites only need a better design and clearer content rather than a rebuild, and I’ll tell you if that’s the case.

Can we update the website ourselves?

Yes. Your site comes with an editor for the content you need to manage, plus training and written handover notes. We agree during planning on what your team needs to be able to change.

Do you only work with businesses in Sault Ste. Marie?

No. I’m based in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, and work with businesses anywhere in Canada through calls, email and screen sharing. The process is the same wherever you are.
