HeyHippo Privacy Policy
HeyHippo is an invoicing app for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, made by Bunker41 (“we”), a studio in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. This policy explains what happens to the information you put into HeyHippo. It covers the HeyHippo app only.
The short version
- HeyHippo has no account and no servers. We don’t collect, see, sell or share your business or client information.
- Your data is stored on your devices and, if you use iCloud, in your own private iCloud so it syncs between your iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.
- The app doesn’t use analytics, advertising or tracking of any kind.
Information you enter
You may enter your business details (name, contact information, address, tax number, logo, and payment details such as a PayPal.Me username), information about your clients (names, email addresses, phone numbers, addresses, notes and, if you choose, a photo), and invoices, estimates and payments. Client photos are only shown inside the app. They’re never added to invoices.
This information is stored in the app on your device. If you’re signed in to iCloud, Apple’s iCloud (CloudKit) keeps a copy in your private iCloud database so your devices stay in sync. Only you can access that database. We can’t. Apple’s handling of iCloud data is covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy.
When information leaves your device
Only when you choose to send it:
- Sending invoices. When you send an invoice by Mail, Messages or another app, or print it, the invoice goes where you send it. HeyHippo doesn’t keep a copy anywhere else.
- Payment links. Invoices can include links to your own PayPal, Venmo, Cash App, Stripe or Square account, or your bank details. When your client opens one, they’re dealing directly with that provider under its own privacy policy. HeyHippo isn’t involved in those payments and can’t see them.
- Apple Watch. A summary of your open invoices is sent from your iPhone to your paired Apple Watch.
- Purchases. HeyHippo Pro is bought through Apple. Apple processes the payment. We receive no payment card or Apple Account details.
- Support. If you email us, we receive what you send (such as your email address and message) and use it only to help you.
Notifications
Reminders (for example, “INV-0007 is due today”) are created on your device. They aren’t sent through our servers.
Children
HeyHippo is a business tool and isn’t directed at children.
Keeping and deleting your information
Your information stays until you delete it.
- Delete individual clients, invoices or estimates in the app.
- Deleting the app removes the copy on that device.
- To delete the iCloud copy, open Settings › your name › iCloud › Manage Account Storage › HeyHippo › Delete Data (the wording varies by iOS version).
- Device backups (iCloud Backup or computer backups) may contain the app’s data until those backups are replaced or deleted.
Because we don’t hold your data, we can’t access, correct or delete it for you, but we’re happy to explain how to do it yourself.
Security
Data on your device is protected by iOS encryption when your device is locked with a passcode. iCloud data is protected by Apple. Temporary PDF and spreadsheet files created for sharing are deleted automatically.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update the date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, mention it in the app’s release notes.
